Family law (De facto)

Changes have been introduced to the Family Law Act 1975, which provide for opposite-sex and same-sex de facto couples to access the federal family law courts on property and maintenance matters. The changes also include financial agreements between de facto couples and super splitting.

The date of effect for the financial agreements and super splitting is expected to be 1 March 2009 and we will keep you informed of further updates through this website.

Publications are being progressively updated and will be available on this website in early 2009.
