Your Benefits

Transferring

Transferring money from one superannuation Fund to another is referred to as rolling over.

Can I transfer superannuation from an earlier employer (or superannuation Fund) into MilitarySuper?

Yes. To be able to transfer amounts into MilitarySuper, you must be a current contributing MilitarySuper Member. You cannot transfer amounts into MilitarySuper if you are a preserved benefit Member.

Contributions tax of 15% will be deducted from any untaxed portion of any amount you transfer into MilitarySuper. A higher rate of tax also applies to transfers over $1 million from an untaxed scheme to a taxed scheme.

Transfer amounts form part of your Ancillary Benefit and are invested in the same investment strategy as your regular contributions. You may elect to change this investment strategy at any time by completing the form Member Investment Choice (MIC1) (PDF, 111KB).

Generally, the benefit cannot be paid until you permanently retire from the workforce after reaching your preservation age. You can roll over the benefit at any time, even before you leave the Australian defence Force (ADF).

In order to arrange a transfer amount, you will need to contact your other superannuation provider(s) and complete their paperwork asking for the benefit to be transferred to MilitarySuper.

We will also require you to complete an Application to Pay in a Transfer Amount to MilitarySuper (PDF, 183KB) form and send it to your other superannuation provider(s). The cheque must be made payable to 'MilitarySuper * Account of (Member's name)'.

Once your other superannuation provider money has been received and credited to your MilitarySuper account, you will receive confirmation from us.
