Who is a Contributor

All new Australian Defence Force (ADF) entrants must become Members of MilitarySuper. They do this by joining MilitarySuper, the superannuation scheme that covers most Members of the (ADF). The scheme was introduced in October 1991 to gradually replace the Defence Force Retirement and Death Benefits (DFRDB) Scheme.

Contributors also comprise

  • Fomer MilitarySuper members who re-enter the ADF on continuous full-time service (CFTS);
  • ADF personnel who transferred schemes from the DFRDB; and
  • personnel re-entering the ADF serving on continuous full-time service (CFTS) who have elected to become MilitarySuper members.

Important: If you are a DFRDB Scheme recipient Member who does not make a scheme election (MilitarySuper or DFRDB) before re-entering the ADF, you will automatically join MilitarySuper for this and all future periods of service.

For more information please see Re-entering the Australian Defence Force.

Your Benefit's Components

MilitarySuper benefits consist of three parts:

  • a Member Benefit, made up of your own fortnightly contributions and the interest that they earn;
  • an Employer Benefit, which is the Government's contribution to your superannuation. Your Employer Benefit includes a 3 per cent productivity benefit; and
  • any Ancillary Benefits which comprises voluntary ancillary contributions or amounts transferred to MilitarySuper from another Fund.

For more information about your benefit components see Your Benefit Components.
