Transferred Amounts

A transfer amount is all or part of another superannuation benefit you can pay into MilitarySuper.

A transfer amount can be accepted from:

  • another regulated superannuation Fund;
  • an Approved Deposit Fund;
  • a Retirement Savings Account; or
  • the SHA Special Account (previously called the Superannuation Holding Account Reserve (SHAR)

Amounts transferred into MilitarySuper from other superannuation Funds will not count towards the contribution cap (the transferring Fund will withhold tax at the top marginal tax rate for amounts over $1 million).

Note that 15% tax will be deducted from any untaxed portion of the transfer amount on receipt.

Who is Eligible?

To be able to transfer amounts into MilitarySuper you must be a contributing MilitarySuper Member. You cannot transfer amounts into the Fund if you are a preserved benefit Member.

Generally, the benefit cannot be paid until you permanently retire from the workforce after reaching your preservation age. This may be different to the date you claim your MilitarySuper Benefit.

How do I Arrange a Transfer?

In order to arrange a transfer amount, you will need to contact your other superannuation provider(s) and complete their paperwork asking for the benefit to be transferred to MilitarySuper. The cheque must be made payable to MilitarySuper.
You will also need to complete an Application to Pay in a Transfer Amount (MAC02) (PDF, 264KB) form.
